About our Colour Analysis

Many times it’s been said that a colour analysis it too limiting and that it restricts a person, BUT if used correctly, a colour swatch can be liberating, not limiting! A colour consultation allows you to wear a larger range of colours – confidently! It will encourage you to wear colours you’ve never tried wearing before, and almost immediately you’ll be glowing in these new choices!

At The South African Image Academy, we implement the Flow Colour Analysis which is based on the following:colour
  • Temperature - Warm or Cool
  • Value – Clear or Muted
  • Intensity – Light, Medium or Dark

Once we have determined your dominant temperature e.g., 'Cool' or 'Warm' and your value Clear or Muted, we ascertain your 'Flow Direction”. There are 6 possible 'Flow' combinations: Deep, Cool, Bright, Light, Warm and Soft.

Once we take all the above into account, we analyse our client to be one of the following 12 colour groups.

  • Deep

    1. Cool, Clear and Deep
    2. Warm, Muted and Deep

  • Cool:

    1. Cool and Clear
    2. Cool and Muted

  • Bright:

    1. Cool, Clear and Bright
    2. Warm, Clear and Bright

  • Light:

    1. Cool, Muted and Light
    2. Warm, Clear and Light

  • Warm:

    1. Warm and Muted
    2. Warm and Clear

  • Soft:

    1. Cool, Muted and Soft
    2. Warm, Muted and Soft

Lastly, we customize this swatch. Since no person looks the same, no colour swatch can be the same! After carefully inspecting whether each individual colour in the swatch complements the client or not, we decide which colours should be replaced with an improved colour. Thus each client receives their own personalized colour swatch to guide them on their image journey.

How is our Flow Colour Analysis Different from the Traditional Seasonal Analysis?

1. Traditional seasonal analysis was found to be too restrictive and left too many grey areas where people just did not fit into any one of the seasons. It is impossible to divide all races, ethnicities and skin colours into only 4 colour seasons. Our Flow Colour Analysis has advanced and is more comprehensive because we divide people into 1 of 12 different colour groups, with a more in-depth method of analyzing.

2. No one is just 1 colour group rather a mixture of 2, a dominant and a secondary (an 80/20 mix).

3. Anyone can flow from their major colour group to any of the other colour groups regardless of weather the person's major undertone. Therefore, 'Cools' can flow to 'Warm' and 'Warm' and flow to 'Cool'.

4. Our swatches can now also be personalized – making it even more client-specific.

5. Understanding your best Contrast levels is essential to be able to fully understand how to use your colours and shop effectively. We teach you what your correct contrast levels are, and how to implement this in patterns, single colours as well as layering.

6. Colour is affected by the fabric it is in. In a colour analysis, the client will also be taught what type of fabrics will work best with her colouring. Texture, weave and the surface of fabrics (matt, sheen and shine) all have their place to play in your best colours.

7. Radical changes are possible - there are many options for everyone using coloured contact lenses and hair colour changes. Seasonal analysis kept people in a limited set of colours.

8. Age will change your colouring - With seasonal analysis you were told that the same band of colours that suit you when you are 18 will still suit you when you are 80.- Not True! Everyone gets more cool and muted with age.
